Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a noncancerous enlargement of the prostate gland. The major factors that play a role in causing this disease are changes in male sex hormones that come with aging, family history of prostate problems, and any abnormalities with the testicles. This condition is a common occurrence in older men and many men of 60 to 80 years of age experience various symptoms like incomplete bladder emptying, nocturia, urinary urgency, painful urination and a weak urinary stream.
Bladder cancer occurs when the cells in the urinary bladder become abnormal and grow out of control. Though it develops in bladder, over time, it can spread to nearby lymph nodes and other distant parts of the body, including lungs, liver and bones. A number of symptoms like blood in urine, painful urination, pelvic pain, weight loss, bone tenderness, fatigue, frequent and urgent urination, and urinary incontinence indicate the presence of bladder cancer.
Erectile dysfunction refers to the inability of getting and keeping an erection firm enough to have sexual intercourse. Stress, mental health concerns and sometimes a combination of physical and psychological issues make many men experience Erectile dysfunction. Though occasional ED is common, frequent erectile dysfunction only raises a concern as they can make sexual intercourse impossible without treatment.
Prostate cancer is a form of cancer that develops when some cells in the prostate gland become abnormal and go out of control. Over time, the abnormal cells can form a tumor and metastasize to other parts of the body by travelling through blood vessels or lymph nodes. Prostate cancer brings no signs and symptoms in its initial stages. However, in its advanced stage, it brings symptoms such as frequent urination, trouble urinating, painful ejaculation, loss of appetite and weight, bone pain, Erectile dysfunction, and blood in semen.
Kidney cancer is a condition where the cells in the kidney turn malignant and grow out of control. Over time, it can metastasize and penetrate to the nearby and distant organs. Early symptoms are rare with kidney cancer. However, once cancer starts reaching its advanced stage, the symptoms such as blood in the urine, a lump in the abdomen, loss of appetite, weight loss for no reason, and anaemia appear. Smoking and obesity can increase the risk of kidney cancer.
Kidney stones are hard, crystalline materials that get formed within the kidney. These stones don’t stay in the kidney always; sometimes they can travel down the ureter, reach the bladder and get passed out of the body in urine. Kidney stones of bigger size can block the flow of urine and cause a lot of pain and irritation. The major risk factors for kidney stones are dehydration, obesity, low urine volume, family history and certain medications.
Urinary incontinence refers to involuntary leakage of urine due to loss of bladder control. It can occur as a result of stress, aging, damage to pelvic floor muscles, prostate or bladder cancer, hysterectomy and some other surgical procedures, pregnancy and childbirth, and obesity. The chances of urinary incontinence increase with age and it is more common in females than in males. When its severity and frequency increases, it affects the daily activities of the individual and brings a poor quality of life.
Urinary tract infection or UTI is an infection that is caused by microbes such as bacteria in any part of the urinary system, which includes kidneys, bladder, ureters, and urethra. Symptoms of UTI include strong and frequent urge to urinate, strong-smelling urine, burning sensation when urinating, cloudy or bloody urine, muscle aches and abdominal pains. Though UTI is more common in women, it can occur in people of any sex and any age.
