News - Two heart transplants conducted in a span of 4 hrs

Perfect synchronization between Clinicians, Medical Social Workers  and Nursing Teams in Pune, Mankhurd, Navi Mumbai & Mulund facilitated two heart transplants within just 4 hours, saving the lives of two male patients. Dr. Anvay Mulay, Head Od Cardiac Transplant Team, Fortis Hospital, Mulund led the tam that conducted the transplants. The Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC) Mumbai & Pune, and the Traffic Police authorities of the two cities enabled these lifesaving transplants, which took place in the course of the Organ Donation Awareness Week.

In the first case, the Transplant Team at Fortis Mulund retrieved a donor heart from a hospital in PUne. The 22 year-old female donor was a housewife, who was declared brain dead following a  head injury caused by fall. The heart was transported  in a 24-year-old patient. In the second case, the family members of a 45-year-old domestic worker from Vashi, who was declared brain dead, consented to donate her organs. The donor heart was transplanted in a  58-year-old male patient from Thane, who was placed on the ‘Super Urgent List’ a week ago. The heart was transported to Mulund via a Green Corridor, covering 18 kms in 16 minutes.
